Blizzard Entertainment began as a MS–DOS third party programming company in 1991. Based in Irvine, California the company began as Silicon and Synapse and adopted the Blizzard label in 1994. Blizzard has had tremendous success over its almost 15 years of programming games. The games in its portfolio include the Diablo series, the Starcraft saga, and the Warcraft and World of Warcraft line of games. All of these are enormously popular, especially World of Warcraft which is the largest mass multiplayer online game ever conceived. Blizzard Entertainment includes over 250 programmers, producers, designers, artists, and engineers. The group’s newest project is the much anticipated second installment of the Starcraft saga. A.I. Research @ IBM

ibm.png IBM engages in several research and development projects exploring the different capabilities of artificial intelligence. The various fields of research vary widely from intelligent software that helps users organize their email to building software environments that utilize machine learning and deduction. IBM has been a leader in A.I. research since the company’s inception in the 1950s. IBM currently has about a dozen major projects underway, along with other programs and partnerships in the corporate and academic sectors.  IBM conducts its A.I. research and development on a truly international scale. IBM has offices in Tokyo and Haifa, Israel along with its various offices and facilities in the United States. SPAWAR

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR) is a robotics research and development department of the U.S. Navy. The center is located in San Diego, California. The facility conducts research in a multitude of areas, including robotic surveillance, non–lethal weapons systems, and lethal weapons systems.  Although SPAWAR is officially a U.S. Navy facility, its fields of research include many land based robotics systems.  SPAWAR also conducts research in robotics systems intended for law enforcement use. The center is not solely a military research and development facility. The company maintains a workforce of over 30,000 employees worldwide, and provides software and networking solutions to individual developers and large corporations. The company possesses one of the most extensive portfolios of software and service partners in the world. Sun Microsystems also produces microelectronics that provide power for consumer goods, servers, and software developer tools. The Solaris operating system and Java computer program are among several core brands that Sun Microsystems manufactures. Cisco Systems Inc. is a corporation founded at Stanford University in the mid-1980s. The corporation currently stands at the forefront of networking systems in the United States and across the globe.  The corporation focuses mainly on the maintenance of the infrastructures of IP based networks. Cisco also produces hardware, and is a major facilitator of business communications. Within corporate communications, Cisco also works to transfer audio, visual, and other data into a secure digital framework. The research and development conducted by Cisco pertains to advanced integrated communications networks. Cisco estimates that up to 14 billion devices will be connected to the Internet by 2010.
