The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR) is a robotics research and development department of the U.S. Navy. The center is located in San Diego, California. The facility conducts research in a multitude of areas, including robotic surveillance, non–lethal weapons systems, and lethal weapons systems. Although SPAWAR is officially a U.S. Navy facility, its fields of research include many land based robotics systems. SPAWAR also conducts research in robotics systems intended for law enforcement use. The center is not solely a military research and development facility.
